Today I went to the orthodontist and they said I am going to need to get braces on my front 4 top teeth and get an expander because almost all of my teeth are crowded. Then after that I will need like invisible retainer at night. Because as you can see my teeth are very crooked. And if you saw the bottom you would be even more surprised.
If you have had any experience with braces please tell me because I am very nervous.
I had experiences with braces, but not to straighten my teeth. I had to have braces for another reason - I'll tell you in person sometime because it is too complicated to type it all here.
ReplyDeleteIt is okay to be nervous. Your teeth will hurt at first, like achy, because it is all so new to them and they'll be a little scared too. So, since you know they will be hurting a bit, just eat stuff that is easy to eat until they feel better - you know things like ice cream, and . . . more ice cream.
Ask your orthodontist for wax, and I'll tell you how to put it on so it will stay. The wax will help the braces feel better at first because they are made of metal and your mouth is not used to having metal in it all day.
Lots of people don't like to smile when they have braces on, but I say, just smile anyway. Braces won't change your great smile, it will just change how your teeth look - it will look like little suits of armor on each tooth.
When a bracket (the brace that is stuck to the tooth) happens to pop off on its own, it feels kind of cool.
I can tell you some good special toothbrushes that will make it easier to brush your teeth. You'll need to brush your teeth a lot because food gets stuck in your braces and looks gross. So every time you eat something, swish water in your mouth to get the stuck food out, or brush your teeth. Brush and floss a lot or else when you get your braces off you'll have lots of cavities. Cavities are no bueno.
Try not to chew gum or sticky candy because if it gets stuck, it is hard to get out and will pretty much rot your teeth. If you really, really, really, really want gum or candy just once, just chew it with your front teeth carefully.
Oh, and don't bite into apples, it will pop your brackets off. And corn on the cob will be very difficult to eat.
And when you are done having braces, you will be very happy you did it. But, your parents won't be very happy about how much it cost - so if they ever complain about this, just smile really big so they can see your super teeth.
